The Enemy Within

etching, 16" x 16"

The Enemy Within

I have been set adrift
in a strangers dream,
into a black, black night,
on a pearl white sea.

The dream sticks click
to our words of prayer.
A thousand ghosts sing.
In the swirling mist,
the raven's cry
and the moons blinding light
mark our souls
as we dance in the stranger's paradise.

The Eagle's eye blinks
and the waters go still.
In the silence that follows,
I see myself clearly
through flames of doubt.

I carry silence
like a war drum hanging from my belt.
I approach my ghost
with fear in my heart.

As the fires die down,
I am, again, alone-
the wind is my brother,
the cliffs my soul.
